Laser-Cutting “Our Mountain Home”

Custom Laser-cut Window / Transom Made For A Rustic Home

Several years ago, a Harley-riding couple — grandparents and empty nesters — bought a fixer-upper home on the east brow of Lookout Mountain, Georgia. The view sold them on the property, but the old house needed a lot of contracting work. They didn’t know custom laser-cut metal would be part of their plans.

The wife said “It was going to be our vacation home. Then, we decided to make it our mountain home, where we retired to. It actually had ugly vinyl siding; my husband tore off that siding and we, ourselves, put up the log siding.”

With that “Mountain Home” theme in mind, she sketched out a design for a backlit transom window above a main entrance. “I had the design down on paper for a couple of years, but I couldn’t find anyone to make it.”

“You watch these TV shows about remodeling. They just call up someone when they want something done. But folks like us don’t have those connections.”

Finding The Right Laser-Cutting Firm

“One day I drove by a metal fabrication plant,” she recalled. “I asked them if they could make what I needed. They couldn’t, but they ‘knew a guy’.”

That’s how the mountain home owner met Scott and Angela Kiser, owners of Innovative Laser & Design.

“I showed them my design. It was pretty complex, but the Kisers said they could computer-generate the design, feed it into the laser center, and laser-cut the design out of steel. After finishing, that metal could then be fit between two pieces of plexi-glass, get mounted in wood frame, and set above the door.”

She recalled that, as she looked at her design on the computer, it seemed the corners were a little empty. ” Innovative Laser had another design on their shop wall that caught my attention. It featured an eagle’s head.”

“My husband loves eagles — he even collects eagle art pieces — and we ride Harleys. I thought “Let’s put eagles’ heads in the upper corners.” So the Innovative Laser staff expanded the design to match my idea. The result looks great.”

Quality, Custom Laser-Cut Steel Home Décor

The home decor says “Our Mountain Home” with “Established In 2016” beneath. The steel piece was custom laser-cut from 20 gauge mild steel (low carbon steel), on Innovative Laser & Design’s 2000 watt Cincinnati cl-7a industrial laser. After a light sanding, the laser-cut steel was finished with high heat black paint and clear coat.

“I am so pleased with the product. It looks awesome! Innovative Laser made it at a great price. And the Kisers: They are the kind of good people who were hard to find, but easy to work with. I’m just excited to have found them, and to see my idea get put into reality.”

“Now, my dream is actually in the transom above the door in “Our Mountain Home”, and it just looks fantastic. I couldn’t be more pleased!” she said.
